The Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults at Visitation B.V.M. Parish
The Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults is the Church’s ritual process for calling adults to a conversion of mind and heart and for preparing them for a full and active life in the Church as Catholic disciples of the Lord Jesus. During the process, adults and interested older teenagers participate in sessions of faith formation and reflection on the Word of God. In addition, the Parish Community, led by the volunteers on the RCIA team and including all of you, celebrates with them the liturgical rites which mark their progress on their spiritual journey towards the reception of the Sacraments of Baptism for those who are unbaptized as well as to Confirmation and Holy Eucharist for anyone who is a member of another faith denomination. Baptized Catholics who seek to complete their initiation with Holy Eucharist and Confirmation are also called to RCIA and finally, anyone among our community of Faith who may want to update themselves is welcome to join in the sessions for RCIA on Wednesday evenings. Many parishioners will probably recall that you have been part of one or more of these rites during the year at Masses on weekends. Also, you may have experienced our joy together when the RCIA participants complete the formal part of their journey at the Easter Vigil or during the Easter season as they become Catholic and enter the Church.
The process here at Visitation begins with an Open House on Wednesday, September 6th in the Larkin Center at 7:00 P.M. If anyone among our parish family knows a family member, friend, or neighbor who has expressed interest and desire to you, please invite them to the Open House. Each one of us might be the voice of the Holy Spirit who brings another individual to the journey of Faith. There may be someone in the Congregation now who has been worshipping with us who may be discerning the call to be Catholic. We invite you cordially to “come and see” on Wednesday evening, September 6th. After this Wednesday, the sessions take place weekly in the Larkin Center on Wednesdays from 7:00 P.M. to 8:30 P.M.
In addition to offering this process to new candidates or those who wish to renew and update their Faith, we would welcome volunteers to serve as Parish sponsors to assist new candidates on their journey.
