Fr. Bob's Corner - Dec 13

Fr. Bob's Corner:

Rejoice!  It is Gaudete Sunday - the third Sunday of Advent.  It marks a time when we know that the coming of the Lord is near.  When I was growing up, I remember waking our parents up with my brother and sister on Christmas Day and waiting at the top of the stairs to be let down to open presents. I remember my parents - barely awake - rubbing their eyes and stalling.  Why wouldn’t they just let us go down and see what Santa brought us? Anticipation.

Think about a time when you had to wait for something great.  Perhaps it was the time when you were about to propose to your future spouse.  Maybe a time when you had a big championship game the next day.  Maybe it is still the joy of Christmas morning from both the perspective of the kids or the torturing parents.  This Sunday lives inside of the anticipation.  It lives in a time of waiting for the greatest gift of all time - the gift of our Savior.  The gift of the Father, not torturing His people by making them wait, but a Father who knows that living in anticipation of the greatest gift ever makes His people thirst, hunger, and long for Him.  It points us towards living out our faith in anticipation so that we may always be reminded that He is the best Father ever - and may not give us exactly what we want when we want it - but always knows how to give us the best of Himself.

May the Lord give you His peace,
 Fr. Bob
