Fr. Bob's Corner - April 4, 2021
Happy Easter!  We celebrate the very high point of human history today.  Our Lord Jesus rises from the dead as the sacrifice offered by the Father in expiation for the sins of the world now conquers death and opens the gates of heaven for us.  Eternal life with our Father is possible. These words we have heard before. It’s been drilled into us.  Do we know what they mean?  Does our soul rejoice in this fact?  All of us who grow up Catholic know the bullet points of our faith.  How easy it is for us to simply say - “it’...

Fr. Bob's Corner - March 28, 2021
Happy Palm Sunday!  Jesus’ triumphant entrance into Jerusalem.  It is this moment that He has come for.  As droves of Jewish people flood Jerusalem for the Feast of Passover, Jesus, too, enters into the holy city as people lay palm branches before Him to honor Him and the things they have heard of Him.  These are some of the same people who, in a few short days, will call for Him to be crucified.  He is followed by His apostles and disciples who will abandon Him in the garden of Gethsemane.  He knows all of this must happen.  It is f...

Fr. Bob's Corner - March 21, 2021
The Jewish people, before and during the time of Jesus, were required to make a pilgrimage to Jerusalem three times a year.  Once in the spring for Passover (remembering the time God led his people out of Egypt), once in the summer for Shavuot (remembering the time God gave his law on Mount Sinai), and once in the fall for Sukkoth (remembering the years God protected the Israelites when they were in the desert).  Jesus would have most certainly made these pilgrimages with Mary and Joseph during the course of His life, as we can see Mary and Joseph were observant J...

John 3:16. Athletes have recently been putting this on their cleats, eye-black, and even getting tattoos of it. “For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son”.  It is a very popular quote and we find it in today’s Gospel of John. The author of John is in the middle of speaking about how history changing this event, this gift is.  Those who believe in Him - those who accept this gift live in light, while those who deny this gift live in darkness. One of the most interesting lines of this passage is that when the Light comes into the world - the people preferred darkness.  T...

Don’t ask why, but the game Jenga popped in my head the other day.  It was a fun game of strategy of pulling wooden blocks out of a stack in turns with a group of people.  Whoever made the stack tip over and fall lost.  Come to think of it, far too many people win at Jenga.  I digress. I was thinking about the individual wooden blocks and how they can represent the crosses in our life.  The sacrifices we make for our families.  The times we go out of our way for others.  The times we give of ourselves.  You probably know where I’m going with this before I even start - ...
