This weekend and Monday we celebrate two special days in the Church - All Saints Day and All Souls Day. It is a reminder to all of us that our home, our true home, is in heaven with our Father. It points us towards and fixes our gaze on the One who calls us to Himself. “Our hearts are restless until they rest in You”. All Saints Day celebrates the accomplishment of those who are in Heaven, seeing our Father face to face forever. They have received their crown through “running the race” well - most of the time through suffering in faith and much of the time through the giving up of their lives for t...

This weekend’s readings….It's all about LOVE!  AND WE KNOW GOD IS LOVE! “You must love your neighbor as yourself”—is lifted from Leviticus (Lev 19:18). We are brothers and sisters in Christ in the family of our faith, in the family of Visitation.  St. Thérèsa of the Child Jesus, (the Little Flower) the saint of love, showed how all things with great love, even the simplest of things.  Picking up a piece of trash, picking up a toy, picking up after a it with great love.  Don't grumble.  Loving God is on equal footing of Loving our n...

To borrow a phrase from our southern friends, “gosh golly almighty” fall is beautiful.  The color of the leaves and the cool fall air.  Great time for a nice fire pit at night.  One of the best times all year.  “He arranges the times and the seasons”.  Everything is His.  The beauty of fall and the bleakness of coming winter.  Our very souls.  He never ceases to amaze. The God who amazes also shocks the Israelite people in the first reading today from Isaiah. He calls King Cyrus His “anointed one”. (Anointed=chosen).  King Cyrus is a Per...

Love our second reading from Saint Paul today. He is most likely writing this letter from jail for spreading the Good news and writing to the people of Philippi. He has every right to be down on the world around him but isn’t. He writes: ‘I know how to live in humble circumstances;    I know also how to live with abundance. In every circumstance and in all things    I have learned the secret of being well fed and of going hungry,    of living in abundance and of being in need.’ The secret of his life - the secret of being filled with joy even in the middle of being i...

Golf is such a great game.  In the words of Bagger Vance, it’s a game that “can’t be won, only played.”  It always amazes me that sometimes you can prepare to the best of your ability - you can stretch and practice and feel great on the range - but the second you start your round, you completely forget how to play the game.  Then there are the opposite times - when you just wake up, roll out of bed, and step onto the golf course and play fantastic.  It’s such a weirdly beautiful game.  But through it all - it’s a game that can’t be won - we can’t beat...
