Happy Mother’s Day! What a beautiful time of year to celebrate our mothers. They are so very special to us and rightly so. They sacrifice so much of themselves so as to bring joy and love into our lives.
Our parish is named after our Blessed Mother, and so, we are under her protection; we are under her comforting mantle. As our role model the Blessed Mother leads us to her Son. And that makes sense - look at our mothers on earth whom we love so much. Our moms are proud, strong moms who love their kids. When our mothers on earth model themselves on our Mother in heaven, grace fills the home. The children in the home can do anything God wants them to do. Please note - not whatever THEY want to do - rather, whatever God wants them to do.
After a long life under the guidance and love of our Blessed Mother and Joseph, Jesus didn’t do whatever He wanted. He did the will of the Father. And that is what is promised to us when our homes are filled with the grace of God - we can do whatever God wants us to do. Whatever our Father wants us to do. And mothers play a pivotal role in that. They mold and shape us into the people we become. And our Blessed Mother is the model par excellence.
This weekend we are grateful for our mothers. We pray for them to be models in our homes of our Blessed Mother and pray that grace may fill our homes. I am grateful for my mom and my grandmas. As much as I torture them they know how grateful I am for them and how much I love them. I am also grateful to all the moms here at VISI who take care of Father Mulranen and myself. Lastly, let us pray this weekend in particular for those who wish to be mothers but are not able to be (but they are able to be in many, many other ways) and for our moms who are with our Father now. May they rest in the peace of the Son and receive the reward for their labors.
May the Lord give you His peace,
-Fr. Bob
