Children's Liturgy of the Word

The celebration of the Mass is at the heart of the Catholic Faith. Visitation B.V.M. Parish follows the practice of a separate Liturgy of the Word with children as suggested in the Directory for Masses with Children. The children of ages 3 through 8 are invited to participate at the 9:00 A.M. Mass in the Upper Church and the 11:00 A.M. Mass in the Lower Church each Sunday from late September through June each year.  The children are dismissed prior to the Liturgy of the Word and they go with the Catechist to the locations designated.

Visitation Parish has nine Children's Liturgy catechists.  Each of them is well-prepared to proclaim the Sunday readings with our young parishioners and to open the Word of God to the listening ears, minds and hearts of the children.

The celebration of the Liturgy of the Word with children is a liturgical experience that assists young people to hear and respond to God's Word in ways that enable them to be nurtured and challenged by its power, and to experience the grade of ongoing conversion to the vision and values of the Word of God. (from the Introduction of the Liturgical Press resource for Childrens Liturgy of the Word 2015-2016)

The children may participate as the family chooses at the 9:00 AM (Upper Church) and/or 11:30 A.M. (Lower Church). Registration is not required at Visitation B.V.M. Parish.
